What is “Rock layers tell time”?

Rock layers tell time is a 4th grade science skill in the Rocks & Landforms region of the TernQuest map — rock layers, weathering, maps & hazards. It is aligned to California Common Core standard 4-ESS1-1. Children work through 0 grade-tagged questions at the apply level (applying the idea), and Pip the tern offers a hint — never the answer — when they get stuck.

How does it unlock?

Skills on the map unlock in order: finishing the skill before this one with a mastery score of 60 or more opens rock layers tell time. A grown-up can also assign it directly from the dashboard, and teachers can assign it to a whole class with a join code.
