What is “S-blends (st, sp, sn)”?

S-blends (st, sp, sn) is a Kindergarten reading skill in the Blend Bay region of the TernQuest map — bl · st · tr — two consonants together. It is aligned to California Common Core standard RF.1.3b. Children work through 20 grade-tagged questions at the recall level (quick recall), and Pip the tern offers a hint — never the answer — when they get stuck.

How does it unlock?

Skills on the map unlock in order: finishing the skill before this one with a mastery score of 60 or more opens s-blends (st, sp, sn). A grown-up can also assign it directly from the dashboard, and teachers can assign it to a whole class with a join code.
