Newcomers & settlers

What is “Newcomers & settlers”?

Newcomers & settlers is a 3rd grade social studies skill in the Our Town's Past region of the TernQuest map — first peoples, settlers, a town over time. It is aligned to California History-Social Science Content Standards standard 3.3.1. Children work through 20 grade-tagged questions at the apply level (applying the idea), and Pip the tern offers a hint — never the answer — when they get stuck.

How does it unlock?

Skills on the map unlock in order: finishing the skill before this one with a mastery score of 60 or more opens newcomers & settlers. A grown-up can also assign it directly from the dashboard, and teachers can assign it to a whole class with a join code.
